Beautiful Minds II

Minds II features artworks by nine artists from broad artistic fields who with
their artworks explore the way
in which mental illness has impacted their
lives, whether it be themselves, a family member, or a friend.

Minds II (2012) is the second exhibition (following
Beautiful Minds, 2011, Index. St.Peters.) curated by
Jessica Leffley, under her Beautiful Minds Project (BMP).
is an artist-run-initiative, which endeavors to promote awareness of mental
illnesses and provide support
for those who suffer from a mental illness, or
have experiences with family or friends who share the same struggle.
the past three years Leffley has been concentrating on the effectiveness of
catharsis in art used as therapy,
not only in her studies but also in her
“My personal struggles have
directed me towards the study of art as therapy, using the skills I have learnt
to encourage others to use creative processes that have provided me respite
both in the past and present.”
My research into mental health,
art and catharsis has encouraged me to take it further and create a
project, which will help others. I would like to welcome you to the second year
Beautiful Minds Project.”
Jessica Ann Leffley
Jessica Leffley has recently
completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Sydney Collage of Arts (2012), and
currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate of Arts majoring in
Curatorship, Sydney University.
This exhibition is supported by the
Beautiful Minds Project and ATVPs Emerging Curator Mentorship program
by The Visual Arts and Craft Strategy and the NSW Government through Arts NSW.
