OPPORTUNITIES (for
Interns, Work Experience and Volunteers)
ATVP is an Artist Run Initiative run entirely by volunteers. In
the nearly 3 1/2 years since we've opened our doors, ATVP has created over
900 exhibiting opportunities within its walls, as well as over 400
exhibiting opportunities for artists in satellite exhibitions and
events, such as the inaugural CarriageArtWorks and the Breathing Space exhibition at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, 2009. The gallery
receives on average, 1000 visitors every month and 4500 visits on its
web site. It provides a vital ground for the arts community of Inner
West Sydney to gather and explore in common the territories of
contemporary art through the exhibition of work, the promotion of
common projects, and the fostering of dialogue with regional, national,
and international arts communities.
We
offer volunteers and interns an experience tailored to their interests
and ambitions and can provide valuable experience in many of the
aspects of running a gallery. This can include back-end admin work,
installing, documenting, and demounting shows, event management, media and
marketing, graphic design, as well as potential curatorial experience
through our emerging curators program. Many volunteers who have shown
commitment to the gallery have gone on to become co-directors, and many
of our directors have gone on to get funding or jobs within the
industry. As an Artist Run Initiative with a particular interest in
fostering artists, curators, and people just entering the industry, our
volunteer program places a particular emphasis on helping our
volunteers to make connections, develop skills, and acquire the
experience necessary to advancing their experiences and careers in the industry.
